CV for Yuliang ZHAO, PhD, Professor

Dr. Yuliang Zhao is the Director-General, National Center for Nanosciences and Technology of China. He graduated from Sichuan University in 1985, and earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Science from Tokyo Metropolitan University in 1999. He moved to Chinese Academy of Sciences from RIKEN in 2001.

Research Interest: He proposed the toxicity study of engineered nanomaterials in 2001, and was a pioneer with innovative ideas for initiating the study on nanosafety issue. His work focuses on biological effects/activities of nanomaterials with an emphasis on the establishment of reliable and valid analysis methods for the testing of nanomaterials and nanomedicines in biological systems and understanding of their biochemical mechanisms, which has led to the discovery of new biochemical and toxicological properties of inorganic and carbon nanomaterials, a new-concept nanomedicine for cancer therapeutics, ISO standard analytical methods, and sustainable development of nanotechnology, etc.

Publications: He published >570 peer-review scientific papers, 8 editorials in international journals, with citation by >34,000 times (H-index~94); edited and published 3 books in English and 10 in Chinese, with his earliest efforts on systematizing the knowledge for nanosafety in category of nanomaterials, and made significant contribution to building the knowledge framework for nanosafety issue.

Prize/Awards: His scientific achievements have been honored by the most prestigious scientific award in China and the international, including, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (2017), Fellow of TWAS(2018), TWAS Prize in Chemistry (2016), National Prize for Natural Sciences (2018, 2012), the 60 Years Achievement of Chinese Academy of Sciences (2009); the Chinese Academy of Sciences-Bayer Young Scientist Award (2006), Beijing Award for Science and Technology (2008), Beijing Award for Leading Talent in Science & Technology (2014), and China Award for Outstanding Contribution on Toxicology (2015); Excellent Research Award of Japan Physical Society, Japan (2006); Chinese Academy of Sciences-Bayer (Germany) Scientific Prize (2006); Distinguished Young Scholar of China, National Science Foundation (2005); Wang Kuanchen Science Award, Chinese Academy of Sciences (2005), The Distinguished Editor of Science China Chemistry and Science Bulletin, CAS (2016); The 2016 World Highly Cited Researcher Award (Thomson Reuters), USA; The 2002-2012 World Highly Cited Researcher Award (Thomson Reuters) USA; The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds (Thomson Reuters), USA (2014), etc.
